When it came the time to choose the destination for my summer holidays I did not have the slightest doubt about the place wanted to visit. I wanted to visit the Canary Islands, but visiting all of them in two weeks was practically impossible, so we thought to select the two islands closest to the African coast: Fuereventura and Lanzarote.
- Today I want to tell you about my holiday in Fuerteventura and I want to give you some practical advices about what to do in Fuerteventura and to enjoy your break in this Spanish corner immersed in the African landscape!
WHAT TO DO IN FUERTEVENTURA: ACCOMMODATION
What to do in Fuerteventura? well, this island is largely uninhabited, the main centers are Corralejo, El Cotillo, Puerto del Rosario and Morro Jable, the rest is limited to some quaint fishing village. I stayed at Corralejo and did not regret it at all. In fact, this small center offers so many things to do: beaches, shops, restaurants and a big port!
- Do not expect Ibiza's night life because Corralejo will offer you a more quieter and relaxing stay! -
Corralejo’s places you do not have to miss are:
–The Bakery and H20 for breakfast. The first, a classic bakery where you can take cakes, pancakes and pastries. The second, a bar open only in the morning for those who want to try a whole vegan breakfast;
–Mojito Beach Bar for an aperitif at sunset in front of the sea enjoying stunning cocktails and teaspoonful tarts and tortillas;
–Sanus for a bio and vegan dinner (also perfect for celiac and diabetic people) with Italian cuisine or Mi Casa for a sea front dinner where you will delight with first courses, fish and good white wine!
WHAT TO DO IN FUERTEVENTURA: THE SEA
if there’s something which couldn’t miss in my guide “what to do in Fuerteventura”, this is the sea! One of the reasons why I fell in love with this island infact was its melting pot of beaches. In fact, exploring the island long and wide you will discover beaches that are very different from each other and that will often make you forget to be dived into the Atlantic Ocean. Along the coast, you will discover miles of beaches with cliffs such as La Escalera and La Concha (perfect for surfing!) or Caribbean beaches with clear and fine sand that you will find heading south as Sotavento Beach along the Costa Calma (ideal for relaxing under the sun and making long baths in the immense lagoons that fill the beach). Finally, you can not miss the beach of Cofete in the southwest of Fuerteventura. To get to this stunning beach you will cross a dirt and desert road and you will find of one of the most exciting panoramas of all time, I assure you!
-As you can imagine the water of Fuerteventura is cool enough, but do not be afraid because after the first impact you will get used to and enjoy your unforgettable sea day. -
Here are some practical tips regarding the sea of Fuerteventura:
–The beaches of Fuerte are mostly deserted, away from bars, restaurants and mini-markets. For this reason, do as we do, and bring anywhere with you a thermal bag to fill with water, beer and sandwiches ;
– The Canaries sun is very strong, even though the wind won’t make you feel the heat. So it is good to protect your skin and to renew often the protection;
–There are endless beaches in Fuerteventura, seeing all of them is almost impossible, so I recommend you wake up early and visit at least two beaches a day. You will not regret it!
